It’s not hard to find a gym in Westchester. Between Equinox, NY Sports Club, Planet Fitness and local indie gyms you’ll find one within a mile or less of your town center. When my wife and I were looking at areas in Brooklyn (before we re-calibrated our sights to Westchester) the presence of a yoga or pilates studio was key piece of information about a town. Now don’t be dismayed if you do not see a class in a Westchester town you’re considering For example, at the time of this article Fleetwood does not have a pilates, yoga, spin or barre class in Fleetwood itself, but it’s just a short 1 mile drive down Gramatan Ave to get to the options in Bronxville. And while you might not find Barre in Tuckahoe, you can roll down to New Rochelle and catch some classes very easily. Regardless with the popularity of these forms of exercise and the influx of Manhattanites and Brooklynites to Westchester, I’d be surprised if you don’t see outposts opening in each neighborhood before long.
Below are some options for spinning, the stretching arts, and the ballet/aerobics hybrid activity (I believe this is an accurate description of a barre class). This is just a few to give you an idea of what’s out there or to quickly find a class. If you do some digging I’m sure you’ll find more.
