The Hudson Valley and CT have many great Organic, Biodynamic, and standard Natural farmers who open their farms to locals interested in purchasing directly from the source.
My family has visited Silverman’s Farm for the last two years for apple picking and the farm offers a great experience. The property is hilly and beautiful. It provides a hayride to the apple picking sections of the farm and offers a large petting zoo, live bluegrass on weekends, along with great lunch options to eat at their picnic benches. They also sell a wide range of jams, pies, and other packaged goods in case eating 20 pounds of apples on your route home does not suit your needs.
For those looking to learn more about sustainable agriculture you should look to StoneBarnCenter. Not only does this non-profit offer free tours for families on weekends at varying points of the year but it also holds a fine dining restaurant that utilizes the Farm’s produce and livestock on its menu. Oh, and the restaurant is Blue Hill at Stone Barn Farms, owned by non other than celeb chef Dan Barber.
The Hudson Valley offers many options for fruit and veggie picking. A few of them are below:
